Shoe Palace Park Meadows Retail Tenant Improvement
The Electricians delivered the complete electrical buildout for a new Shoe Palace store at Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree, Colorado. The scope covered service gear and distribution, more than 115 owner supplied light fixtures, branch circuits and plug mold, floor boxes, low voltage stub ups, HVAC power, and firestopping of electrical penetrations.
Project Overview
What is retail tenant improvement electrical work? Retail tenant improvement electrical work is the buildout of the service, distribution, lighting, and device systems inside a leased space so a tenant can open for business. In a mall setting the work happens inside an occupied building, which means the electrical scope must satisfy the landlord criteria, the rated demising assemblies, the mall operating schedule, and the local inspection process at the same time. The Electricians performs retail tenant improvement work for general contractors and national brands throughout the Denver metro area and the Front Range.
At Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree, Colorado, The Electricians completed the electrical buildout for a new Shoe Palace store. The work followed a detailed plan set from Kinetic Design and was installed to the 2020 NEC.
Our team installed a 75 kVA transformer, a 200A panelboard, plug mold, floor boxes, and stub ups for the low voltage systems, and supported firestopping of the electrical penetrations. The buildout ran during standard weekday hours and was sequenced around demolition and restoration work managed by the general contractor.
Project Snapshot
Scope: Service gear and distribution, retail display lighting, branch circuits, plug mold, floor boxes, low voltage stub ups, HVAC power connections, and firestopping of electrical penetrations.
Our Scope of Work
The Electricians carried the full electrical buildout inside the leased space, from service gear through final trim and inspection, on a schedule set by the mall and the general contractor.
Service Gear and Distribution
A 75 kVA transformer and 200A panelboard installed with panel home runs routed in conduit throughout the space.
Retail Display Lighting
More than 115 owner supplied light fixtures installed to the design layout so product displays read the way the brand intends.
Branch Circuits and Plug Mold
Branch circuitry and continuous plug mold raceway serving display walls, fixtures, and point of sale equipment.
Floor Boxes and Low Voltage Stub Ups
Floor boxes set to the fixture plan plus stub ups positioned for the owner low voltage and data systems.
HVAC Power Connections
Electrical connections to the mechanical equipment serving the tenant space.
Firestopping Support
Firestopping of electrical penetrations so rated assemblies stay intact through the buildout and pass inspection.
Systems and Equipment
The installed package below reflects a compact retail footprint carrying a dense lighting and device load.

Building Inside an Operating Mall
A mall tenant improvement is not a small version of a ground up build. The space sits inside a building that stays open, so the electrical scope answers to the landlord criteria and the mall operating schedule on top of the plan set and the code.
The Electricians ran the Shoe Palace buildout during standard weekday hours and sequenced our work around the demolition and restoration activity the general contractor managed. Material staging, deliveries, and access all move through a common corridor shared with other tenants and the public.
The constraint that catches contractors new to mall work is that almost nothing can be resolved in the field on your own authority. Penetrations, access, and shutdowns run through mall management, which is why sequencing decisions get made early rather than improvised on the floor.
Lighting Density in a Retail Footprint
More than 115 fixtures inside a footprint of roughly 1,500 square feet is a high density lighting package, and that ratio tells you what kind of store this is.
Footwear retail sells on presentation. Product sits on wall displays and pedestals that need accent light rather than general ambient light, so the fixture count climbs and the circuiting gets tighter than a typical retail space of the same size.
The Electricians installed the owner supplied fixtures to the design layout, with branch circuitry and plug mold arranged so the display walls carry power where the merchandising plan places it. Getting the rough in to match that plan is what keeps fixture installation from becoming a field improvisation at trim.
Firestopping and Rated Assemblies
What is electrical firestopping? Firestopping restores the fire resistance rating of a wall, floor, or ceiling assembly wherever conduit, cable, or boxes pass through it. Every penetration an electrical contractor creates in a rated assembly has to be sealed with a tested system before that assembly counts as rated again.
The Electricians supported firestopping of the electrical penetrations on the Shoe Palace buildout. In a mall, demising walls between tenants are commonly rated assemblies, which makes penetration control a routine part of the electrical scope rather than an afterthought.
Inspectors look at this closely, and an unsealed penetration is a straightforward reason to fail a final. Handling it as the work proceeds is far cheaper than chasing penetrations after ceilings and finishes are closed.
Wiring Methods and Handoff
The project used EMT, PVC, and MC systems, each applied where it fit the condition, with panel home runs routed in conduit. Matching method to location keeps the installation durable and keeps the inspection straightforward.
Our team installed the work to the 2020 NEC and to the Kinetic Design plan set, coordinating throughout with the general contractor so the electrical scope stayed aligned with the demolition and restoration sequence.
Retail tenant improvements end in a handoff. The store has a fixed opening date, and the space has to arrive clean, complete, and inspected. Delivering that predictably is what earns the next store in the chain.
