Commercial Project Portfolio
UCHealth Medical Office and Hospital Electrical Construction
The Electricians has partnered with UCHealth on multiple medical office and hospital facilities across Colorado, supporting both new construction and renovation. The work covered panel and distribution upgrades, healthcare lighting and life safety circuits, dedicated circuits for imaging and diagnostic equipment, backup power provisions, and medical office tenant build outs.
Program Overview
What is healthcare electrical construction? Healthcare electrical construction is the installation and upgrade of the distribution, lighting, life safety, and equipment power systems that hospitals and medical offices depend on. It carries requirements ordinary commercial work does not, because NEC Article 517 and NFPA 99 govern how power is distributed and how systems must behave when normal power is lost. The Electricians performs healthcare electrical work for general contractors and health systems throughout Colorado.
The Electricians has partnered with UCHealth on multiple medical office and hospital facilities across the state. Our scope has supported both new construction and renovation, delivering systems that meet code for patient care environments.
That work has included main panels, transformers, and branch circuits sized for the electrical load of medical equipment and building operations, LED overhead lighting and life safety circuits, dedicated circuits for sensitive imaging and diagnostic equipment, laboratories and IT rooms, provisions for generators and redundant supply, and complete wiring for new medical office suites and specialized departments.
Program Snapshot
Scope: Panel and distribution upgrades, healthcare lighting and life safety circuits, imaging and diagnostic equipment circuits, laboratory and IT room power, backup power provisions, and medical office tenant build outs.
Our Scope of Work
Across the UCHealth facilities we have supported, the electrical scope has spanned service and distribution through final equipment connections in patient care environments.
Panel and Distribution Upgrades
Main panels, transformers, and branch circuits installed and configured for the electrical load of medical equipment and building operations.
Lighting and Life Safety Systems
LED overhead lighting, emergency exit signage, and life safety circuits installed to healthcare code requirements.
Imaging and Diagnostic Circuits
Dedicated circuits serving sensitive imaging and diagnostic equipment where clean, isolated power is a manufacturer requirement.
Laboratory and IT Room Power
Dedicated equipment circuits for laboratories, IT and network rooms, and water heater systems.
Backup Power Provisions
Provisions integrated for generators and redundant power supply so patient care continues when normal power is interrupted.
Medical Office Tenant Build Outs
Complete wiring and system installation for new medical office suites and specialized healthcare departments.
Scope by System
The table below summarizes the systems The Electricians has delivered across the UCHealth facilities we have supported.
| System | Electrical Scope |
|---|---|
| Main panels and distribution | Panels, transformers, and branch circuits sized for medical equipment and building loads |
| Overhead lighting | LED lighting throughout patient care and support areas |
| Life safety | Emergency exit signage and life safety circuits to healthcare code |
| Imaging and diagnostic equipment | Dedicated circuits for sensitive imaging and diagnostic equipment |
| Laboratories | Dedicated equipment circuits |
| IT and network rooms | Dedicated power for network and server equipment |
| Water heater systems | Dedicated circuits and equipment connections |
| Backup power | Provisions for generators and redundant power supply |
| Tenant build outs | Wiring and system installation for new suites and departments |
| Delivery | New construction and renovation across multiple facilities |
Healthcare Electrical Is Its Own Discipline
Hospitals and medical offices are not ordinary commercial buildings from an electrical standpoint. NEC Article 517 and NFPA 99, the Health Care Facilities Code, set requirements that do not appear anywhere in a retail or office build.
Those rules govern how patient care areas are wired, how receptacles and grounding are handled at the bedside, which loads must remain energized when normal power fails, and how quickly backup power has to pick them up.
The practical consequence is that a contractor cannot arrive at a healthcare project with general commercial habits. The Electricians works to healthcare code requirements and coordinates with the facility and the design team so systems clear inspection and function the way the clinical environment requires.
Working in Operating Healthcare Facilities
Renovation work inside a hospital or medical office happens around patients, clinical staff, and equipment that stays in service. Nothing about that environment tolerates an unplanned outage.
Our team plans shutdowns in advance with facility engineering, verifies what each circuit serves before it is touched, and sequences work so clinical operations continue. Access, containment, and cleanup all follow the requirements the facility sets for construction in occupied areas.
The result across the UCHealth work has been electrical systems delivered on schedule with minimal disruption to healthcare services, which in a working facility matters as much as the installation itself.
Imaging and Diagnostic Equipment Power
Imaging and diagnostic equipment is among the most demanding electrical loads in any building. Manufacturers publish specific power requirements, and dedicated circuits are typically mandatory rather than optional.
A dedicated circuit serves one piece of equipment and nothing else. That keeps sensitive electronics off shared branch circuits where other loads introduce disturbances, and it prevents an unrelated device from tripping a breaker that takes a diagnostic machine offline.
The Electricians installed dedicated circuits for imaging and diagnostic equipment, laboratories, and IT rooms across the UCHealth facilities we have supported. Coordinating those circuits against the equipment cut sheets during rough in is what avoids rework once the equipment vendor arrives.
Backup and Redundant Power
What is an essential electrical system? In a hospital, the essential electrical system is the portion of the distribution that must continue operating when normal power is lost. NEC Article 517 divides it into branches covering life safety, critical patient care, and essential equipment, each with its own requirements for what it serves and how fast it must be restored.
That structure exists because a power interruption in a clinical setting is not an inconvenience. Procedures are underway, monitoring is live, and equipment cannot simply restart.
Our scope on the UCHealth work included integrating provisions for generators and redundant power supply so that patient care continues uninterrupted when normal power is lost.
