TOC Denver Commercial Electrical Power Reconfiguration

What is commercial electrical power reconfiguration? Commercial electrical power reconfiguration is the modification of existing circuitry to serve a new use, rather than the installation of a new electrical system. It involves tracing what each circuit feeds, verifying where it originates, separating and rerouting conductors, and keeping the equipment that must stay energized in service throughout. The Electricians performs this work for facility managers, general contractors, and property owners throughout the Denver metro area and the Front Range.

At TOC Denver, The Electricians modified the existing electrical infrastructure to support simulator equipment in the T1 Simulator Room and the T2 Multi-Purpose Room. The facility uses a raised floor system, so the reconfiguration happened inside infrastructure that was already in place and already serving live loads.

The result was dedicated, properly configured power for the new simulator requirements with minimal disruption to the surrounding electrical systems and no unnecessary replacement of usable infrastructure.

T1 Simulator Room

Work in the T1 Simulator Room began with tracing and verifying the existing floor box and receptacle circuits to establish how the electrical system was actually configured. Drawings tell you what was intended. Tracing tells you what is there.

One existing floor box was found sharing a circuit with another floor box. That box was disconnected and abandoned, while the other was maintained and placed on the appropriate dedicated circuit.

The Electricians then ran a new dedicated circuit from Panel L3 to the existing floor box location, including the breaker, conductors, terminations, labeling, and final testing. Existing wall receptacles and downstream devices were verified throughout so necessary power stayed active as circuits were separated.

T2 Multi-Purpose Room

The T2 Multi-Purpose Room required additional modifications to the existing raised floor electrical infrastructure. Our electricians traced the existing receptacle and floor box circuitry before reworking the system to create the required dedicated simulator circuits.

The scope included reworking two circuit runs, then separating, splicing, and reconnecting existing circuitry as the new configuration required. Maintaining continuity to downstream receptacles received particular attention throughout that process.

Existing raised floor boxes were reused wherever possible. That kept the modification targeted and avoided replacing infrastructure that was already serving its purpose.

Working Inside Existing Electrical Systems

Commercial electrical renovation calls for a different skill set than ground up construction. On a new build the electrician creates the system. On a renovation the electrician has to understand a system somebody else created, often years earlier and not always as drawn.

What is circuit tracing? Circuit tracing is the field process of determining what a circuit serves, where it originates, what equipment sits downstream, and how a change would affect the rest of the facility. It happens before anything is disconnected.

At TOC Denver our team performed that field verification first, then separated and rerouted circuits while preserving service to devices that had to remain operational. The approach adapted the existing infrastructure to a new requirement while minimizing construction and disruption.

Raised Floor Electrical Systems

What is a raised floor electrical system? A raised floor sits above the structural slab on pedestals, creating an accessible plenum underneath where power, data, and cooling distribution run. Removable floor tiles allow equipment locations to be changed without opening walls or ceilings.

Facilities use raised floors precisely because layouts change. Simulators, workstations, and equipment move, and the electrical infrastructure has to move with them without triggering demolition.

Realizing that flexibility still requires disciplined work. Boxes have to be traced, circuits separated cleanly, and the whole system relabeled accurately, or the next contractor to open the floor inherits a puzzle instead of a system.
